"What is my purpose?"
A mission asks, “What is my purpose?”
Each of us has a purpose in life; a goal that focuses our thoughts
and actions. In the Religious life, we call this the mission for
which a religious community is founded: to preach the good news,
to teach, to serve the sick and the poor, to be a missionary right
here in America or in a foreign land.
In the Religious life, there are as many missions
as there are religious communities in the church.
Father Felix de Jesus Rougier, M.Sp.S, founded the Oblates of Jesus
the Priest in Mexico City in 1937. Their mission: pray for priestly
vocations and support everything related to the priesthood. Through
their work in seminaries, in diocesan offices, parishes, catechesis,
and designing vestments, the Oblates engage in their mission. Essential
to Oblates’ mission is their common life of work, song and
prayer.
